     What about socialising?

    This is an important question.

Socialising matters for a child’s development.

It matters for learning how to interact in the real world, for building friendships, and for confidence.

And it’s not something we believe should be compromised.

What is important, though, is understanding that not all socialisation is the same.

    Socialisation can be positive.

    It can be neutral.

And unfortunately, it can also be harmful if it happens in the wrong environment.

We often hear from parents whose children were exposed to environments where they started acting out of character.

    Swearing.

Picking up behaviours that don’t reflect who they are.

In some cases, exposure to things like vaping, drugs, or trouble at school.

Obviously, that’s not the kind of socialisation any parent wants.

So what really matters is how children are socialising.

    That it’s aligned with values.

    That it’s monitored.

    That it’s healthy and productive.

And that children are actually forming good-quality friendships.

At Lady Evelyn Independent School, this is exactly why we created our Wonder Kids Social Circle.

This is a structured social programme where students engage with one another through clubs and group activities in a safe and positive environment.

    Things like cooking club.

    Drama.

    Creative writing.

    And other interest-based clubs.

    Students interact with peers.

    Build friendships.

And socialise in a way that’s fun, engaging, and aligned with values.

This is actually something that would normally cost over £1,000 per year on top of school fees.

But for Lady Evelyn parents, it’s included completely free.

On top of that, we always encourage families to include physical extracurricular activities outside of school.

    Things like football.

    Swimming.

    Sports clubs.

So children also get physical movement and in-person interaction as part of a balanced routine.

What we often find with online schooling is that it actually creates more time for healthy socialisation.

Time that would normally be spent commuting, waiting between classes, or travelling back and forth is simply removed.

That time comes back to the family.

Students often end up spending more time with siblings.

    More time with parents.

And more intentional time with friends.

    And their friendships don’t disappear.

    They still meet friends.

    They still socialise.

They just do it with more freedom and flexibility.

So rather than limiting socialisation, this model allows it to be more intentional, more aligned, and often more meaningful.
